Shanghai Shidongkou 1st Power Plant (previously known as Shanghai Shidongkou Power Plant, Shanghai Shidongkou Power Generation Ltd.) is located in Shengqiao, Baoshan District, Shanghai. It is boardered by Bao Steel on the east, connected to Huaneng Shanghai Shidongkou 2nd Power Plant on the west, facing the Yangtze River to the north and downtown Shanghai to the south. Being a mega enterprise and the first modern port power station exceeding 1000MW in installed capacity within the Shanghai Power Grid, the power plant was a state-designated priority energy project during the Seventh Five-Year Plan Period. It comprises 4 domestically-made 300MW improved-type power generating units. The project was set up in April 1982, and construction commenced in April 1985. The power plant was planned and designed in one phase and construction was conducted in a continuous manner. The four units respectively commenced commercial operation in February 1988, December 1988, September 1989 and May 1990. On January 1, 2003, this power plant became fully owned by Huaneng Power International, Inc.
