The Shantou Oil-Fired Power Plant is located on the outskirts of Mei Xi. It has an installed capacity of 100MW and consists of two 34.45MW gas turbine units and a single 34.95MW steam turbine unit. The units use the equipment produced by GEC Alsthom and commenced full-scale operations in April 1988.
The Shantou Oil-Fired Power Plant obtains 100% of its crude oil requirements pursuant to government allocation under the State Plan.Prior to 1995, each year the State Planning Commission allocated 120,000 tons of crude oil produced by the Shengli Oil Field to the Shantou Oil-Fired Power Plant. This allocation is currently made in accordance with the Company's planned electricity generation. The crude oil is transported to Nanjing via pipeline, and then shipped from Nanjing to Shantou port. The Shantou Oil-Fired Power Plant typically stores 26 thousands tons of oil on site. Coal consumption rates for power sold were 340gram/kWh for both 1999 and 2000, respectively. Currently, electricity generated by the Shantou Oil-Fired Power Plant is delivered to the Shantou Provincial Power Grid for sale.
